SOME FREE TIPS FOR CHOOSING THE
RIGHT LOGO, SIGNWRITER & SIGNAGE FOR YOUR NEEDS AND
BUDGET
1) SHORT TERM SIGNAGE
CORFLUTE SIGNS, these visually
look like cardboard but are made of plastic. Also known as
fluteboard, combined with a 5 year vinyl make an excellent
onsite sign
that can be attached to any surface. Without
the need for heavy installation bolts or cables you can use
press thumb pins or even blue tack on glass.
DIGITALLY PRINTED REAL-ESTATE
GRADE VINYL STICKERS, these can be used to promote
sales, directional signs on work sites, anything you may want
to promote being restricted by the demographics of the area
(no room for hard substrate signage).
2) LONG TERM SIGNAGE
COLORBOND STEEL SIGNS,
these are usually .55mm thick sign steel. Many signwriters
are offering a cheap alternative by using a particle board
like substrate. There are many different variations on timber
but lets face it, any board that is not synthetic and porous
is going to flex, swell, move and buckle in time.
Comprised with top quality vinyl’s or
even laminated digital prints using a 5 year uv stabilized
ink these signs will project your invested promotions for
years to come keeping you looking your best for longer.
ILLUMINATED SIGNS: The days of
the old light box are gone. These are Bulky, allow room for
bugs to breed inside, EXPENSIVE TO RUN, capture moisture and
give a shaded area between lighting tubes.
EDGE LIT PANELS are the go. THESE ARE CHEAP
TO RUN, ultra thin and rubber sealed giving you a plasma screen
sharp image for years to come. Whether you are using a digital
print, a backlit film or a poster, these come in many different
models from static to animated, portable or hard mounted the
possibilities are endless.
If you can’t afford illuminated signs
but still want that effect reflective vinyl’s are the
go. These work just like street signs. They get your attention
so why not get your customers attention?
WARNING: There are afew types of reflective
vinyl’s getting around. THE CHEAPER VINYL’S HAVE
AN AGGRESSIVE ADHESIVE AND WILL DESTROY THE SURFACE IT IS
APPLIED TO. THE MORE EXPENSIVE VINYL'S WILL NOT AFFECT THE
SURFACE BY REMOVING THE PAINT. (AVERY SERIES)
3) ONSITE,
TRADE SHOW, MARKET, SHOP, FACTORY, FOYER, ETC PROMOTIONAL
DISPLAY SIGNS
What is the required exposure
distance? Is it windy? Is it going to get wet? Is it in a
clean environment?
Many Systems out there will do the job right
for a short while but will fall apart in the wrong conditions.
Always check with your council to see what is permitted in
your area.
Some landlords do not allow certain types
of signage to be applied to their site. For peace of mind
check to see what kind is permitted.
4) PROMOTIONAL BUMPER STICKERS, FRIDGE
MAGNETS, ETC
When first starting out, the most economical
method incorporating your signwriting to promote and start
branding your product or business is with bumper stickers
and promotional fridge magnets, posters, uniforms and items
as such.
Finding the right signwriter that will help
you out with a whole package is the most economical way to
go about this. The artwork is already set out with your logo
and information and in most cases requiring only minimal changes.
Why should you spend more when you do not
have to?
Using these kinds of Branding techniques is
how the big companies got to where they are today.
EG: What is the first thing you think of when
you see the following logos?
The Golden Arches?
The Flying Kangaroo?
Big white bearded face on a red Background?
Did I mention the business name? I BET YOU
GOT EVERYONE OF THESE
5) YOUR LOGO
DESIGN
Keep your Logo Clear, Simple and to the point.
You want a logo that:
You can put on the side of your car and be
read at 100kmph (60MPH)
You can print in colour, greyscale and black
& white and still look sensational (letterheads)
You can run it across the board (t shirts,
promotional items) without getting expensive to process in
the future
You don’t want a logo
that:
You have to stop and read the actual logo
itself
Multi coloured logos that only can be processed
using costly digital printing (unless you can afford it)Printed
in black and white looks nothing like the original (letterhead
purposes)
(6) FINALLY
WHEN GETTING QUOTES, WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR
Remember cheaper
is not always better!
I can sell you signage for
your car for as little as $150 it will last for a year.
For $300 you will get a vinyl that will last for over 7 years
and will not destroy your car removing it for your vehicles
resale.
Not all signage
offered is equal!
For example, when ordering
a banner, demand double sewn seems and stainless eyelets.
The stainless eylets will not rust and ruin your banners appearance
with rust streaks.
People ”
say it is only a sticker, why so much?”
Can you buy a formula 1 tyre
for the price of a tyre that goes on a shopping trolley?
Keep it real, anyone that can offer you that
kind of price, without your specific request for a short term
lifespan, is not using top quality materials and is only thinking
about repeat order work from you (if you return) making their
own business prosper.
Can you trust them with your business future?
Request and
get it all in writing, dimensions, the material going to be
used, etc.
You are the customer, a little research goes
along way. With a detailed quote list you can look up the
materials on the net and see the lifespans, durability factors
(will they withstand gasoline, detergents, salt water, temperatures,
etc), etc.
